Bottom line is I have sucked with the blogging since leaving on my adventures south at the fine SCA event known as Gulf Wars. I had big plans for doing some blogging while down there. Despite some notes that did materialize. I have since planned to kick that off in earnest after my return and yet there have been a multitude of reasons that have delayed that. A brief explanation is in order, probably, or least it is in my mind. First, though, take a look at the revamped theme, which had its own necessities also explained below. Give it a whirl and tell me what you think. As always comments and suggestions are always more than welcome!
Biggest reason of slow posts since my return has been my health. I know, surprising for those that know me. Anyway, it is the case. It was starting, very slightly the week I was getting that final push in to head to Gulf Wars, but I really did not think too much about it. It was pretty minimal and I was not sure it was just not because of bad eating habits that week. I only really noticed it a couple of times at the war and again thought it was just not getting food in the right times/spaces – though I was being very aware of eating regular. Since then, it has gotten much worse and I am seeing a Doctor about it. I have even bowed out of a big jousting competition that starts tomorrow down in Texas that I was very hyped about.
So what is IT? Well, at this point the Doctor’s do not know for sure. Though many drawings of blood and some MRI scans, along with a few other things the worst preliminary possibilities have been eliminated. What we do know? I have symptoms of being light-headed and often feeling like I am leaning to the right. Sometimes it gets so bad I feel a bit nauseous, but certainly that off-balance feeling has effected the ability to ride horses to be sure – or least stay on them. Hindsight suggests to me that is why I came off at Gulf Wars by the way. Also, while it may or may not be related, blood work indicates that I have a high level of calcium in my blood. Usually it would indicate a lot of other things but not the symptoms I have. So, more specialists and probably more test.
Bottom line of all that is though, I have not really felt all that much up to blogging of late. Even when I have felt up to and motivated enough, this stuff going on is seeming to wear on my usual ability to stay up into the middle of the night and get up fresh after a few hours. Tonight is being one the few exceptions recently.
Add to that, just when I was starting to get to the point of feeling like I had to do something about the blogs, my host called me out on over usage of the server resources. Reality is what is, but it was not because of traffic. Rather, the stupid theme I was using before and the really weird way it stored and retrieved the custom information was the main culprit. It of course took a few days to figure that out and by the time everything was quick fixed and the ISP was satisfied a full seven or eight days was lost.
It was a quick fix though, as the theme was basically cut out and new one put in place. But the new one had none of the look and feel of the old Eligius website, nor did any of the other blogs for that matter. Of course by this time, I was getting in the slammed time at the office with an upcoming major software upgrade – so too did this re-theming event take some time.
So… long story short, the themes are looking good for here and Mephistos. I still have several others to do, but I am about halfway finished with Traveller’s Haven Farms. Figured since I was awake and working on things, I would pause long enough to write a blog or two and hopefully get back to my once a week posting here and there and of course daily at Mephistos. Â Oh, and in case your wondering the background is from a fourteenth century illumination that is free for usage and handily scanned by the library that holds the work, though the name and such escapes me at the current moment. Â It is lovely though and very vibrant.
