Silver Chalice – Pictures

Francesca up on AngelI am putting in a lot of pictures over this month of April.  The intent is that by the end of the month, there will be a full pictorial history of the Lance of St. Eligius that dates back to our beginnings up through most recent activities.   I am starting with pictures from a long ago event that probably took place in 2000 or 2001, though I can not be sure of the exact year, maybe even before that (mental note to revisit timeline, as I think on it because seems like 1999 could be a possibility as well – isn’t it strange that to be so love with history, we do not keep up with our own very well?).  Regardless, the pictures are mostly Lance Riders at some point or another on mostly SD and/or Angel.  SD is long gone, but Angel is still around and continues her dedicated work.  There are a few shots of other folks at the event as well.  I make no claim as to being 100% on all identifications.

IJA in the USA

ija

IJAFirst off, I am doing a post a day on the blog this month. This one is going to be short and sweet as I am starting to close to the deadline of finishing this by the end of the day for the first day. It truly is an international group and has had a few stop and goes here in the United States. That is currently in the process of changing as the organization is, well getting organized here in the U.S.

Expensive Hobby

Mounted Melee

Mounted MeleeIt occurs to me that today I am engaged in what is probably one of the most expensive hobbies a person can have. I realize this after fighting on the ground Saturday and thinking about how many cool bits or updates to armour I have that I would like to make part of one of my two kits (like the used salet Helm, a mere $300) but especially when I think of today and know that I have both the vet and the farrier coming out to deal with Angel and Jack this afternoon.

Candlemas

SCA Combat

SCA CombatEarlier today I went to church, not for church services though mind you. In actual fact I met a few good friends and few hundred others or so for some good tournament sword fighting, medieval recreational style. The event is called Candlemas, has been going on for a long time, is hosted here in Lexington and is known for two things historically: great fighting and great feasting. It was not a disappointment on either account today.

Role Models

Role Models

Role ModelsBack sometime in December, probably early December, I caught the movie Role Models with a friend. It thought I had blogged about it back then, but apparently I only made a note (via a draft entry to myself) that I needed to blog about it and what aspects I wanted to hit with. I admit I was a little leery about seeing it as it could be funny but it could just be dumb. I admit that a friend wanting to see it and having gotten a recommendation from another friend pushed me over the edge and I said what the heck. Read more »
