New Stuff – JOY!

Sewing MachineHad planned things so that I had a few extra dollars this past pay check and finally got a couple of those things ordered that I am so in need of for the upcoming campaign season, which is actually a lot closer to kicking off then I would like to think about. So, several things ordered and I am about like a kid on close to Christmas waiting for those first couple of things to show up. In the meantime, while being just darn giddy, my Mom met me in Lexington yesterday for a quaint surprise. I had mentioned something about maybe looking at getting a machine for my birthday wanted her opinion…

In case you could not tell by the picture above, yeah, I was asking for a sewing machine. I know, it is kind of odd request, but you see, everyone that I used to get to do those quick sewing jobs for me – especially late at night on a tight deadline right before I went on a trip has moved away and such. Now, I do not claim to be any sewing whiz or anything, but if I get things pinned down extremely well, go slow and pay attention to the details, in a pinch I can get something put together. I think, hopefully, like so many other it will be a case of some practice will make one better at the activity then my current level.

Eight Weeks until Gulf Wars

Jousting Pass - Gulf Wars XIXDo not look now, but as of today it is exactly eight weeks until the start of Gulf Wars XX. I have already been getting very exciting, but I am hearing things about it being even more grand than usual with it be the big twenty. I was thinking of maybe camping on the other side (not with the horses) but I am hearing that camping is going to be at such a premium that maybe that is not such a good idea. Anyway, eights weeks! WOW! I have so much that I got to still get done and I need to get both myself, armour, and the horses in shape for this… Anyone want to come help? Here are a few notes, along with the visibly more limited ambitions to finish up. By the way, who all is heading down from the Midrealm? What about folks I know from other Kingdoms? Anyone else bringing horses from Midrealm?

Reenactors Lament

Battle of Tewkesbury - ReenactmentI am sure that most anyone who is reading this has at one point or another ran into one of those types that has been there before, or at least done everything under the sun with some other group that makes what your group is doing look light and unprofessional at this point. The same person is ready to just give everything a try without regards to rules and regulations, or even an understanding to what is involved in the insurance consequences if something unfortunate does occur. I am sure that we have run into the person that really does not understand what farb means or is even about and yet they will be most certainly be the folks that head to the front when the gates to visitors open and try to explain just all it is they think they know but really do not. Recently ran across the almost childish, but yet spot on video below and it got me to thinking about some of the things I have encountered at various times.

2011 Midrealm Equestrian Events

Equestrian Marshal BadgeWhat follows is a tentative schedule for equestrian activities for the upcoming year. I know of at least one or two other events that may happen with equestrian activities and I will add those as they come along. At this point, I only have the one practice that I know, here in Kentucky that is going to be happening. If you have either other events or regularly scheduled practices I would love to hear about them so I can get them on the calendar and help you get the maximum participation. I will continue my somewhat limited ability of not letting events in the same general area of the kingdom happen on successive weekends, especially given what fuel cost are being predicted to go to this year. I will be getting this out to the various websites and email lists very shortly, I just started here to use it as a composing platform.

Gulf Wars XX – Prep

chausses and braiesIt occurred to me just the other day that it is finally time to start really letting my thoughts and actions turn toward Gulf Wars. This is the twentieth happening of the event, though I have only been attended since number ten. I am still pretty pumped about the event and looking forward to it. In face, I had planned on making this list of things that I need to do before the war a few months back, but then decided that it was just a bit to early to get going with it. Now it is definitely time though…

Going to start with those things I need to acquire prior to the war:

  • truck – I need to acquire one, having had problems with the one I had and finally giving up just a few weeks back (THIS IS BIG)
  • tent top – got the tent, but top is worn, leaks, and in general needs replacement – must order in the next few weeks
  • camail/aventail – not absolute, but it would be nice to have, riveted flat blackened rings are preferred
  • balsa tips – this is questionable as to the need, but probably should be prepared
